Problem
Many surfaces are often stained, damaged, and/or dirtied by beverage spills and stains. Coasters serve the purpose of protecting these surfaces and preventing damage. However, looks and appearance are also often valued when considering home elements, so coasters should simultaneously add a decorative touch to the setting while preserving the cleanliness of its surfaces.
Design Brief
I plan to make a set of coasters that protect counters and surfaces from cups. These coasters will fit various cup sizes, and each coaster will be distinct, so those using them can distinguish their drinks from one another. When not in use, the coasters (stacked either vertically or horizontally) together will appear as different objects.
